The Grade 2 Music Literacy Workbook 2027 is a structured, learner-friendly resource designed to develop and extend music-literacy knowledge and skills while preparing learners for the requirements of the UNISA Grade 2 Theory Syllabus.

Building on foundational music-literacy concepts, the workbook introduces Grade 2 knowledge and skills progressively and provides regular opportunities for consolidation and application. Previously learned material is revisited alongside new concepts, helping learners develop a secure and increasingly connected understanding of music.

The workbook goes beyond simply practising examination questions. Learners are encouraged to understand, recognise and apply musical concepts and to connect theoretical knowledge with the music they hear, read and perform.

Includes a Weekly Planner

The workbook includes a weekly planner, giving teachers and learners a clear pathway through the Grade 2 syllabus and making it easier to organise teaching, practice and examination preparation throughout the year.

Each week follows a clear learning structure:

This Week → Practice → Homework

This Week introduces the music-literacy knowledge and skills that form the focus of the week.

Practice provides structured activities to consolidate new learning, apply concepts and develop confidence.

Homework follows a cumulative approach. New material is practised alongside previously introduced concepts so that important knowledge and skills are regularly revisited and reinforced.

Music in Context is integrated throughout the workbook, helping learners connect music-literacy concepts with meaningful musical examples and their broader musical experience.

Building on Grade 1

At Grade 2 level, learners continue to strengthen their foundational knowledge while developing greater fluency, accuracy and independence in working with musical notation, terminology and concepts.

The workbook therefore supports progression from earlier learning rather than treating Grade 2 as an isolated body of examination content.

More Than Examination Preparation

Although the workbook is carefully aligned with the UNISA Grade 2 Theory Syllabus, its purpose extends beyond preparing learners to answer examination questions.

The aim is to develop secure and transferable music-literacy skills that support practical music-making, further theoretical study and increasingly independent musical understanding.

The workbook is suitable for individual music lessons, private studios, schools and supported independent learning.
