The Grade 1 Music Literacy Workbook 2027 is a structured, learner-friendly resource designed to develop secure foundations in music literacy while preparing learners for the requirements of the UNISA Grade 1 Theory Syllabus.

The workbook goes beyond simply practising examination questions. Music-literacy concepts are introduced progressively, reinforced through regular practice, and connected to meaningful musical contexts. The aim is to help learners understand and apply what they are learning while steadily developing the knowledge and skills required for the examination.

A Weekly Learning Plan

The workbook includes a weekly planner, making it easy for teachers and learners to work systematically through the syllabus during the year.

Each week follows a clear learning structure:

This Week → Practice → Homework

This Week introduces the music-literacy concepts and skills for the week.

Practice provides focused activities to consolidate new learning and build confidence.

Homework follows a cumulative approach. New material is practised alongside concepts introduced in previous weeks, helping learners retain and integrate their knowledge rather than learning each topic in isolation.

Music in Context is incorporated throughout the workbook, connecting music-literacy concepts with the music learners hear, read and perform.

More Than Examination Preparation

Although the workbook is carefully aligned with the UNISA Grade 1 Theory Syllabus, its purpose extends beyond preparing learners to answer examination questions.

Learners are encouraged to develop a growing understanding of how music works and to connect notation, terminology and theoretical concepts with their broader musical experience.

The workbook is suitable for individual music lessons, private studios, schools and supported independent learning.
