The Grade 1 Music Literacy Workbook 2027 is a structured, learner-friendly resource designed to develop secure foundations in music literacy while preparing learners for the requirements of the ABRSM Grade 1 Music Theory syllabus.

The workbook goes beyond simply practising examination questions. Music-literacy concepts are introduced progressively, reinforced through regular practice, and connected to meaningful musical contexts. Learners are encouraged to understand and apply what they are learning while steadily developing the knowledge and skills required at ABRSM Grade 1 level.

Includes a Weekly Planner

The workbook includes a weekly planner, giving teachers and learners a clear pathway through the syllabus and making it easier to organise teaching, practice and examination preparation throughout the year.

Each week follows four balanced components:

This Week → Practice → Music in Context → Homework

This Week introduces the music-literacy knowledge and skills that form the focus of the week.

Practice provides structured activities to consolidate new concepts and develop confidence.

Music in Context connects theoretical knowledge with meaningful musical examples, helping learners recognise how notation, terminology and other concepts function in actual music.

Homework reinforces current learning while systematically revisiting previously introduced material. This cumulative approach helps learners retain and integrate their knowledge rather than treating each topic as something to learn once and then forget.

More Than Examination Preparation

Although the workbook is carefully aligned with the ABRSM Grade 1 Music Theory syllabus, its purpose extends beyond examination preparation.

Learners are encouraged to develop a connected understanding of music and to relate theoretical concepts to the music they hear, read and perform. The aim is to build music-literacy skills that support both examination success and continued musical development.

The workbook is suitable for individual music lessons, private studios, schools and supported independent learning.
